2014 Outstanding Achievement in Concrete for Public Works Award
The Cliff Drive CSO Tank Project in Logansport, IN received the 2014 Outstanding Concrete Award for Public Works projects from the Indiana American Concrete Institute. Donohue was part of the team that collaborated to make this project happen. The team consisted of:

The Logansport Cliff Drive Equalization Basin & Pump Station project is an underground 750,000-gallon combined sewer equalization basin located next to the Wabash River. The project includes a triplex lift station within the storage tank effluent channel that has a firm pumping capacity of 1,200 gallons per minute. The storage tank stores excess flow when the interceptor sewer flow is greater than what the wastewater treatment plant can process. When the treatment plant influent flow reaches its capacity, instrumentation at the treatment plant shuts down the lift station pumps and the equalization basin fills. When influent flow at the treatment plant subsides, the lift station turns back on and pumps the contents of the equalization basin to the treatment plant.
The project Contractor, Thieneman Construction, offered a $528,000 deduct back to the Owner to modify the basin design from a precast structure to a cast-in-place concrete structure. The Contractor and the Owner entered in construction contract with a Design-Build project approach. Donohue was hired by the Contractor to redesign the structure to be a cast-in-place concrete structure with the triplex lift station located within the effluent channel of the basin instead of being a separate structure. Donohue used its storage basin design expertise and experience to modify the tank design to expedite construction, improve flush gate cleaning performance, and lower overall costs. The original design engineer’s opinion of the probable construction cost was $4.3M and the Contractor completed the project for a final cost of $3.354M.
