Two Donohue wastewater professionals will be sharing technical insight as part of the Michigan Water Environment Associations 2022 Annual Conference in Acme, Michigan. Brief summaries of the presentations follow.
Part 1 & 2 The Microscopic Monster | Christine Wood, PE
Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 1:30 pm
This presentation focuses on microplastics in wastewater and their impact on the treatment process. Microplastics are ubiquitous in the environment and are found in the influent wastewater stream. Current regulations do not require treatment plants to monitor the flow of microplastics through the plant; however, they are a growing health concern and WWTPs are considered a point source for the release of microplastics to the environment. Conventional wastewater treatment processes remove approximately 90% of influent microplastics with additional removal provided by tertiary treatment.
Everything you want to know about Biosolids Drying | Aric Bergstrom, PE
Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 3:15 pm
In recent years, wastewater treatment facilities are increasingly moving to biosolids drying. This presentation discusses the reasons for this change, factors to consider when undertaking a biosolids drying project, and the biosolids drying systems being used at various Midwest wastewater treatment facilities.
