CTH O Reconstruction
Client: Sheboygan County
Location: Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Donohue was retained to plan and design this roadway reconstruction project along a three mile corridor in the Town and City of Sheboygan. The corridor begins in a rural portion of the Town of Sheboygan, transitions to a residential area, and ends in a fully developed commercial / multi-family residential area in the City of Sheboygan. Numerous alternatives were developed for the roadway and non-motorized accommodations.
Ultimately, the non-motorized accommodations are a reflection of the urban density. Constructed in three phases, the first phase in the city consists of a side path was constructed on the north side of the roadway. The side path accommodates both pedestrians and bicycles. Phase 2 transitions the bicyclists to the roadway while pedestrians have use of sidewalk. Phase 3, located in the town, provides paved shoulders on the rural roadway section.
Along the route, two large box culverts were reconstructed to meet the wider section. Retaining walls minimized the impact on and provided scenic overlooks of the surrounding wetlands / lowlands of the Grandma’s Creek, a tributary of the Pigeon River.
